There are a number of schemes available to Shropshire's schools to help them minimise waste and recycle more.
(1) Waste Education Support Programme (WESP)
The WESP programme is an ideal way to pursue Doorway 4 of the National Sustainable Schools Framework. It offers on-going support and practical curriculum-based activities to schools to help them reduce, reuse and recycle their waste.
Schools on the programme have achieved reductions in waste of between 20% and 75%. At the end of October 2007 there were more than 60 schools on the WESP programme, 51 primary schools and 16 secondaries.
Shropshire Waste Partnership's specialist officer is available, free of charge, to work with each school to deliver a programme tailored to its needs. WESP can support class-work, clubs or initiatives such as Eco-Schools and Schools for Health
WESP activities have also been well received in nursery classes and playgroups, after school and holiday clubs and by other youth groups that are focusing on waste issues and the environment.
For more information - see the attached leaflet, which gives full details about WESP or contact our Waste Communications Officer using the link on this page.

The most recent editions of the WESP newsletter are attached.
(2) Eco Schools
Get your whole school community working together to improve the environment, encourage citizenship, promote healthy lifestyles, and much more besides.
The Eco Schools programme helps your school to improve the following:

(3) Schools 'Green Audit'
Help your school calculate its impact on the environment with this 'Green Online Audit', which will give your schools pointers on how to reduce its costs.
An on-line questionnaire assesses your schools impact in six key areas:
The 'Green Audit' tool is accessed using your schools DfES number and has a secure link to a database of asset plan management information. (so you will have to complete this in school with the help of a teacher).
For more information, follow the 'Green school audit' link.
