Recycling levels in Shropshire

In the year April 2005 to March 2006, almost 35 per cent of the household waste produced in the Shropshire County Council area was recycled or composted – well above the Government’s 21 per cent recycling target.
The figures recorded by the councils in the Shropshire Waste Partnership (see notes 1) for the amount of household waste recycled or composted in 2005/06 (with 2004/05 figures in brackets) were:
Oswestry Borough Council: 42.06% (2004/05: 28.81%)
North Shropshire District Council: 38.49% (2004/05: 28.77%)
South Shropshire District Council: 37.22% (2004/05: 27.46%)
Bridgnorth District Council: 35.43% (2004/05: 30.76%)
Shropshire County Council: 34.8% (2004/05: 28.66%) – see note 2
Notes
(1) Shropshire Waste Partnership is the body responsible for the collection, recycling, recovery and disposal of all household waste on behalf of Shropshire County Council, Bridgnorth District Council, North Shropshire District Council, South Shropshire District Council and Oswestry Borough Council.
(2) The Shropshire County Council figures include household waste recycled or composted in each of the county’s districts and boroughs, including the Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Council area. SABC is not a member of Shropshire Waste Partnership.
