Kerbside collections - Shrewsbury & Atcham
This page provides a quick guide to what household waste is collected in which box or bin in the Shrewsbury and Atcham area, plus other useful information.
Please visit the 'kerbside recycling services' page for a more detailed breakdown of the items that can be collected.
Blue box
- paper
Note: Please use the smaller blue box for your paper. As paper is the heaviest fraction of your recycling, this makes it easier and safer for everyone to lift .
Green box
- glass bottles and jars
- cans; foil; aerosols
- textiles and shoes (see note 1)
- batteries (see note 2)
Note: All cans and glass must be rinsed clean and we ask that pet food tins are cleaned thoroughly for hygiene reasons. Please ensure all sharp lids are place inside the food tins to prevent cuts.
You can place your cans and glass loose in the green box together, and the crews will sort them at the kerbside. However if you have the space, we can get you another green box, so you can keep cans and glass separate.
Green bin
- cardboard
- compostable garden waste
Black bin
- general refuse
Note 1: Textiles and shoes

- rugs, carpets, bath mats
- duvets, pillows, cushions
- soft toys
Due to limited capacity on the vehicles, we can only collect one carrier bag of textiles per household per collection. They must be bagged in a plastic carrier bag to keep them clean and dry. If you have large amounts of textiles, please make use of the bring site network (we have recently quadrupled the number of sites which accept textiles) or donate them to a local charity shop.
Note 2: Batteries
To prevent the batteries getting lost in the bottom of the box and mixed up with the cans, please place them in a small plastic bag.
Yes please
