Shropshire Partnership - working together to improve the quality of life for Shropshire people

The Local Strategic Partnership in Shropshire - working with you to improve access, quality of life and services in Shropshire

The
Shropshire Partnership is a strategic partnership involving regional, public and local agencies and the voluntary and community sector. Partners work together to meet local needs and improve the quality of life in Shropshire. There is a membership of key partners including councils, government agencies, police, fire and health services, local area partnerships and other organisations together with a wider membership of over 50 other community bodies. The Partnership's Independent Chair is the Rt Rev Alan Smith Bishop of Shrewsbury.

The key tasks of a Local Strategic Partnership are to:

  • prepare and implement a joint Community Strategy
  • bring together local plans, partnerships and initiatives and to provide a forum for main service providers
  • work with councils, other organisations and central government to develop a Local Area Agreement
  • develop local neighbourhood renewal to improve access to, and delivery of, local services

The Leadership Board

The
Leadership Board oversees the Shropshire Partnership. It is an inclusive body which brings together regional and local public service providers along with representatives of Shropshire's young people, business, voluntary and community, equality and diversity sectors, area partnerships and parish and town councils. All Leadership Board members have an equal opportunity to influence the decisions and actions of the Shropshire Partnership.

The Equalities Forum

The Shropshire Partnership established the Equalities Forum in 2005 as a partnership network for all Shropshire's equality and diversity organisations and public sector community and voluntary organisations. The Forum organises events and operates a small awards scheme. In 2007 much progress was made in promoting the Hate Crime initiative.

The Standing Conference

The Standing Conference comprises a wide range of partners. Members include partners active in LAA steering and delivery groups, Area Partnerships, Voluntary and Community Sector Assembly, Equalities Forum and Parish and Town Councils. The Standing Conference is usually held three times a year and at least once a year offers the opportunity to meet and challenge members of the Leadership Board.

The Voluntary and Community Sector Assembly

The Shropshire Partnership supported the establishment of the Voluntary and Community Sector Assembly and Shropshire County Council funded its development. The Assembly aims to capture and strengthen the voice and influence of Shropshire's many voluntary and community sector organisations.

Area Partnerships

There are three Area Partnerships in Shropshire covering the Central, Northern and Southern areas. The Chair of each Area Partnership sits on the Leadership Board. Information on the Area Partnerships, which were established in June 2008, will be made available via the useful websites section on this page.
