New library opening in Oswestry
The new Oswestry Library will be opening it's doors to the public very shortly. Located in the centre of the town the old library has been completely renovated and refurbished and a large extension has been added to provide a wonderful new venue over two floors.
New facilities include lift access to the upper floor, FairTrade drinks machine, bookable meeting room, toilets and baby changing area.

Feast of Words Book Festival
Ludlow Library will be hosting a Feast of Words Book Festival on 4 - 11 October 2008.
There will be fun for all the family with story tellers Sally Tongue and Cat Weatherall, author Luke Temple and much more.

Shropshire Day for Older People
In celebration of UK Day for Older People, older people, their families and friends are invited to come along and join in the exciting range of activities at two events to be held in Shropshire during October.
Wednesday 8 October 2008: Full of Energy at the Shrewsbury Sports Village, Sundorne, 10.00am to 3.00pm. Free activities and workshops including bowls, badminton, cycling, dancing, extend classes, and table tennis.
Wednesday 22 October 2008: Full of Knowledge at the Ludlow Assembly Rooms, 10.00am to 3.00pm. Free activites and workshops including local history lectures, reading group taster sessions, and much more.
There will be a host of stalls offering information, advice and support, including a stall from Shropshire Libraries, demonstrating what we do in general, and what we do for older people in particular.

Understanding Self-Harm
To celebrate World Mental Health Day, The Library at The Lantern, Shrewsbury, is hosting an event on 9 October 2008, from 7.30pm to 9.00pm. If you need to know more about self-harm and related issues for yourself, or for a friend or family member, then join a range of friendly and supportive workers from various mental health services who will be on hand to talk and to answer questions. Services involved include Shropshire County Council's Mental Health team, Shropshire Mind, Sapphire women's weekly self-harm support group, and Beat, the Eating Disorder Association's support group.
Books, videos and pamphlets from the Self-Harm and Related Issues Collection which is based at The Library at The Lantern, will also be available to look at and to borrow.

North Shropshire Children's Book Festival
25 October to 6 November - Kevin Crossley-Holland at Whittington Castle, Mythstories story walk, Shropshire Children's Writers and Illustrators Group events. Full programme to be confirmed...watch this space.

Online reading group
Love reading? Like to join a reading group but too busy to make the meetings? Join in the reviews and comments with Shropshire Library Service’s online reading group. Further details can be found on the Online Reading Group page.

New reading
New lists are available featuring general fiction titles, recent bestsellers, a selection of non-fiction titles and biographies now available through the library service. Follow the link to "A good read".
