The Value of Culture in Shropshire

Culture is central to people's quality of life - but can we prove it? In Shropshire we have undertaken a major research project to help us produce hard evidence of the impact of culture on people, communities and the economy.

Working with consultant Jo Hargreaves of Morris, Hargreaves, McIntyre, we have been developing a suite of outcome-focused performance indicators which we will use to demonstrate culture's impact on:

  • increasing people's knowledge, skills and confidence
  • increasing people's sense of physical or mental wellbeing
  • increasing people's employability
  • increasing people's sense of community belonging

The full report is available to download at the right of this page, together with a link to the website of Morris, Hargreaves, McIntyre.

Putting theory into practice

In tandem with the research project, we have been working with another consultancy, Eventus, to identify best practice and ideas for local action to address:
- Arts in Health programmes
- Arts and Heritage as tools for addressing community safety and cohesion
- Rural arts provision

Eventus' reports are downloadable on this page, together with a link to their website.

Look out for news on what we are doing to implement these reports.
