Family History Guide: an A to Z guide to sources at Shropshire Archives
Shropshire Archives is proud to present their latest publication for sale. This 59 page guide contains descriptions of the different classes of record held at the Archives with brief explanations of their origin, together with indications of how they might help researchers. One of the intentions of the guide is to assist people, before their visit to Shropshire Archives, to plan their research by describing the range of sources which can be seen.

House History: a guide to sources at Shropshire Archives
Tracing the history of a property and finding out about who lived there can be exciting and rewarding. This 18 page illustrated guide will help you begin your search. It introduces the basics of house history and gives background information about a range of potentially useful sources. The guide is aimed at people researching their houses in Shropshire and concentrates on how to find information at Shropshire Archives, however, the background information on each source would be of general interest wherever your house is located.

A Guide to the Old Poor Law.
A must for all genealogists to aid them through the pitfalls of poor relief before the introduction of the workhouses in 1834. It also contains a comprehensive list of poor relief related documents that Shropshire Archives holds for parishes in the county of Shropshire.

Shropshire Field Names - CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE
This 97 page booklet was written by George Foxall after studying estate and tithe maps of Shropshire as part of his work for the English Place Name Society. Over 2000 local examples are discussed and interpreted. The booklet will be of interest to anyone who wishes to know the meaning of the many field names which still survive as house, estate or street names. Illustrated.

The Parishes and Townships of Shropshire
Published by Shropshire Family History Society and Shropshire Archives in 2004, this booklet contains a detailed list explaining the complicated administrative history of ecclesiastical parishes and townships of Shropshire. It will help all family and local historians faced with unfamiliar place names. The booklet also contains two loose A3 maps showing the ancient and modern parishes and the dioceses to which the belonged.

If you use the on-line application form, please note the reference number (or merchant's cart ID) in case you have to contact us about your payment. If you have applied on-line and have any queries about your transaction, please contact the Senior Archive Assistants on 01743 255350 (via Customer Service Centre) and they will be able to assist. Please note that the Senior Archive Assistants do not work each day, but if they are not available immediately, they will get back to you as soon as possible.
If you are ordering more than 5 books, then please contact Shropshire Archives for advice as there may be a discount on the postage.
Once you have submitted your order, books will be sent out within 10 working days by second class postage.
